We are trying to get healthy in our house but one thing we love is dip. Really, can you eat carrots without dip? I have been reading a lot about Greek Yogurt as a substitute for Mayo and Sour Cream so I thought why not use it with the ranch packs.
Original Recipe for dip
- One pack of Ranch Salad Dressing Mix
- 2 Cups of Sour Cream
Instead of Sour Cream use Greek Yogurt.
Here’s the breakdown:
- 2 cups of Sour Cream = 960 calories
- 2 cups of 2% Greek Yogurt =340 calories
You can also do this for the ranch dressing and seriously look at the difference! You don’t have to feel so guilty putting ranch dressing on your salad anymore.
Original Recipe for dressing
- One pack of Ranch Salad Dressing Mix
- One Cup Mayo
- One Cup Milk
Refrigerate for 30 minutes to thicken.
Instead of the Mayo use 8oz of Greek Yogurt.
Here’s the breakdown:
- 1 cup of Mayo= 1,440 calories
- 1 cup of 2% Greek Yogurt =170 calories
Fat is obviously less as well. Mayo is 10g per serving vs. 4g in the 2% Greek Yogurt.
Clearly there are health benefits and look at the protein, 20g in the yogurt, 0g in Mayo and basically nothing in Sour Cream.
Now of course it doesn’t taste identical, and Greek Yogurt has more of a tangy flavor so to kick it up we add our favorite Franks Red Hot Cayenne Pepper Sauce. Yummy! Trust me; if Farm Boy gives it the “thumbs up” it’s a winner.
Now go eat some dip! Or have a salad!
